Mines the U.N study of a multi-country-Asian region of males and rape in order to get at the origin of the massive problem.
Notes that the Partners for Prevention, made up of many U.N. agencies conducted the study in: Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Sri Lanka. The workers asked a total of 10,178 men about their sexual lives.
In the journal report by The Lancet, 1/4 responded in the affirmative to having violated a woman (the term rape was not used). "Instead, participants were asked questions like whether they ever 'forced a woman who was not your wife or girlfriend at the time to have sex,' if they ever 'had sex with a woman who was too drunk or drugged to indicate whether she wanted it' or forced a partner, when she did not want to." The supposed logic behind the semantics is that more males might admit to the behavior, but not the nasty title.
