Mythologies and origins
Almost every mythology holds that humans arose from the earth or dust. Science believes the same, and evolutionary science, as with many religions, starts things off in the water. The empirical fact that we exist as humans entails so many necessary causes and effects as to make it seem miraculous.
We are not miracles, but the product of billions of years of earth existing and changing. This entails both majesty and responsibility. Either way, our existence is remarkable, and Chief Seattle correctly points to the interconnections of all things on earth. He looks through the eons of the past and future to see these intersections in the web of life.
